Pope Francis will make his first visit to the Mexico City and surrounding areas February 12 -18, the Vatican has announced.
The pontiff will likely draw millions of attendees during his visit to the capital city as he appears at scheduled official events. He will primarily spend a majority of his visit in Mexico City.
Pope Francis is scheduled to visit several notable historical sites. A list of places he will pay visits to include; National Palace, Mexico City Metropolitan Cathedral, Basillica of Our Lady Guadalupe.
The pontiff’s visit to these historical sites are likely to draw future travelers to locations he is scheduled to appear, as followers desire to travel where Pope Francis has visited.
Mexico City welcomes more than 12.5 million visitors annually. The New York Times posted Mexico City as the number one travel destination from its “52 Places to Go in 2016” list.
